New Iberia police are telling residents to stay off the road after severe rainfall and flash flooding swept through parts of the Acadiana region on Thursday.

New Iberia police said the city is experiencing significant flooding, according to a Facebook post by KATC.

"WE ARE ASKING CITIZENS TO STAY OFF THE ROADWAYS," the post read.

The following roads are closed in New Iberia, according to a police spokesperson: 

  • Lewis Street from St. Peter Street to West Admiral Doyle Dr. 
  • St. Peter Street from Bank Avenue to Lewis Street
  • Center Street to West Dale Street 

The New Iberia Police Department is asking residents to turn around if they see flooded streets.  

Several roadways are closed within the parish, according to an Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office announcement. 

The following roads are closed: 

  • Chastant Road
  • Romero Road 
  • La Highway 88 connecting to Interstate Highway 90
  • 5000 and 6000 block of Sugar Mill Road
  • I-90 frontage between La 88 and Jefferson westbound
  • Main Street at Nadine to the 1000 block of Main Street in Loreauville
