Of the two remaining — Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves — one has a history of escaping confinement and serious charges of domestic abuse.

Police have captured Lenton Vanburen Jr., Leo Tate Sr., Jermaine Donald, Corey Boyd, Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Dkenan Dennis and Gary Price.

Massey, 32, may have recognizable face tattoos of chess pieces, but he remains on the run and has evaded authorities thus far.

His long criminal history and multiple breaks from police have earned him a reputation as a strategic escape artist among law enforcement.

Massey has been previously convicted of armed robbery, aggravated flight from an officer and felon in possession of a firearm, along with theft, simple criminal damage to property and tampering with electronic monitoring equipment.

Massey currently awaits trial in New Orleans for domestic abuse and theft of motor vehicle and he’s wanted for a rape and kidnapping in St. Tammany Parish, officials said.

His latest arrest was November 2024, after what police said was a harrowing fight with his girlfriend where is is alleged to have severely injured her.

Related arrests include Massey's girlfriend

Massey's girlfriend, and an alleged victim of his abuse, is accused of helping him break out, according to court documents.

Six months after accusing him of the brutal violence, the 21-year-old woman was booked on counts of acting as a principal to an aggravated escape and obstructing justice. She is being held without bond in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, according to jail records.

The Times-Picayune does not identify alleged victims of domestic violence.

According to court records, the woman is alleged to have repeatedly communicated with him several times since his latest arrest, including the night of the jailbreak.

Video of Texas arrest

Local police in Huntsville Texas released bodycam footage of the Monday arrest of Leo Tate Sr., 31, and Jermaine Donald, 42, following a chase in Walker County, north of Houston.

The video shows police from multiple agencies surround a white van and demand the two open the vehicle.

Police eventually drag both out of the vehicle and handcuff them.

Tate and Donald were the first escapees to have been arrested outside of Louisiana. On the same day, Baton Rouge police announced the arrest of Lenton Vanburen Jr.

Reports of jail without water

Less than two weeks after the escape, where the inmates used a hole behind a disconnected toilet, officials acknowledged there were more water leaks and shut-offs at the Orleans Parish jail over Memorial Day weekend.

There are social media and family reports of inmates going without showers or sleeping next to toilets filled with waste.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said late Monday that there were “serious plumbing issues” that only resulted in some temporary shut-offs, but denied extended outages.
