A Livonia High School student was injured and taken to the hospital after a fight broke out Monday morning, the Pointe Coupee Parish School Board said.
Livonia Police Chief Landon Landry said that one of the students was allegedly stabbed in the head with a pencil and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The fight broke out at about 8 a.m., before classes had started.
"It was quickly resolved and contained by school resource officers," Landry said.
Several students were sent home, and the Pointe Coupee Sheriff's office is investigating the incident, Landry aid.
In a statement, the Pointe Coupee School Board said that "preliminary investigation has revealed that this incident stemmed from events that occurred in the community."
"School officials are taking this incident seriously and are working with law enforcement to identify all involved and ensure the safety of students and staff," the board said.
