Heavy rain, with possible flash flooding, is expected in East Baton Rouge Parish on Wednesday.

As a disturbance moves across the northwest Gulf into Texas, the National Weather Service Lake Charles is expecting an increase in rain chances for southwest Louisiana.

A National Weather Service Lake Charles forecast states that a surge of deeper moisture is expected to move around a disturbance that's moving across the northwest Gulf. The moisture is forecast to move into portions of central and southern Louisiana Monday through Wednesday, creating a risk for heavy rainfall.

"A very moist air mass will gradually move into the area (Monday) and linger through the first half of this week," the forecast states. "Deep moisture will work into the coastal areas (Monday) with torrential downpours possible, which could lead to flash flooding generally south of Interstate 10."

National Weather Service Lake Charles Senior Meteorologist Andy Tingler said the best chances for rain are from 6 a.m. Monday through midnight on Wednesday.

"Scattered to numerous storms are forecast through the first half of the week with forecast rainfall amounts generally less than 1.5 inches," Tingler said. "However, the reasonable highest amounts will be between 1 and 3 inches."

As far as daily rainfall chances go for Lake Charles, the area has a 70% chance on Monday, 75% on Tuesday, 65% Wednesday, and 60% on both Thursday and Friday. The forecast showsa  40% chance of rain over the weekend.

"The subtropical ridge is expected to build in by the end of the week," the forecast states. "This will provide fairly typical summertime weather conditions."

This typical summertime weather includes hot and humid days and muggy nights, along with scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon.

The forecast daily max heat index for Lake Charles is 102 degrees on Monday, 103 degrees on Tuesday, 98 degrees on Wednesday, 101 degrees on Thursday, 103 degrees on Friday, 105 degrees on Saturday, and 106 degrees on Sunday.
