A Baton Rouge interior design firm was recently named “one of the best in the country” by a national magazine.
House Beautiful, an interior decorating magazine focused on home design and the domestic arts, selected Tiek Byday as one of the “next wave” designers in its 2025 May/June issue.
“Meet this year’s class of rising design stars who have grabbed our attention with their creativity, skill and hustle. These visionaries are redefining what makes a home both beautiful and meaningful,” according to the magazine.

Baton Rouge interior design firm Tiek Byday was featured in the May/June issue of House Beautiful.
Tiek Byday includes interior designer mother-daughter duo Cindy and Bridget Tiek, and architect Hance Day Hughes. Hughes' BYDAY architecture firm and Tiek & Co. merged in 2023 and have worked across a range of custom residential, commercial and hospitality projects since then. In Baton Rouge, they were the designers for The Colonel's Club and Tsunami and are working on the revival of Fleur De Lis Pizza in Mid City.
The firm joined a coveted list spotlighting the top emerging talent in architecture and interiors.
“It was such an honor to be included with designers from all over the country,” Cindy Tiek said.

In early June, the trio was whisked away for a two-day program in the heart of New York City. They enjoyed a welcome dinner at Jean’s and programs at Hearst Tower in Midtown Manhattan and Kravet, a home furnishings company that distributes fabrics, furniture, wallcoverings, trimmings, carpet and accessories. Kravet also owns Lee Jofa and Brunschwig & Fils. The second night was a cocktail reception in The Gallery at 200 Lex at the New York Design Center.
To be considered for the honor, which Tiek Byday shared with 18 other firms nationwide, there was no application or contest entry.
“We have been featured in several Hearst publications, and each one has a different mission statement. Our Louisiana Lake House was featured in Veranda Magazine and Mother’s Lounge in Elle Décor. We do such varied work, so that may have been the appeal,” Hughes said.

Bridget Tiek said that versatility is one of their strengths, which she attributes to spending time upfront with each client.
"We thoroughly interview each client before starting work, often extracting necessary information. Usually, most people have something in mind, but it is very difficult for some people to express themselves, so we use a lot of imagery,” she said.
Bridget Tiek did warn about leaning too much on sites such as Pinterest for design inspiration, as algorithms can limit design suggestions.

In the space at Tsunami at Highland, Tiek Byday designers used beaded curtains and water elements to reflect the restaurant's brand.
The Baton Rouge team said they were delighted to network with other designers and explore the varied business modules. They agreed to stay in touch with Zoom meetings, which Hughes spearheaded.
“We were the only firm from the Deep South, and we specialize in hospitality,” he laughed.
Cindy Tiek said there was a commonality among the designers in emerging trends.
“The one thing that was universal was that stark white is out. Everyone is back to using color now, thank goodness,” she said.

This fall, Tiek Byday will open its resource center and showroom on Government Street called Reserved at Tiek Byday.
“We intend for it to be a place for our clients and for the public to use by appointment. We aim to offer scheduled seminars and create a space for designers to view interior details and make purchases,” Hughes said.
