Southern defensive end Ckelby Givens added another honor to his list of accolades. The standout junior made The Associated Press FCS All-America second-team defense on Tuesday.

The Shreveport native was the HBCU Defensive Player of the Year on the All-America team released by BOXTOROW. Givens, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound player, also was the Southwestern Athletic Conference co-Defensive Player of the Year, sharing the award with Andrew Jones of Grambling.

In 13 games, Givens had 73 total tackles (42 solo), 27.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 13 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and one pass breakup.

The Jaguars finished the season 8-5 and were SWAC West champions after going 7-1. They fell 41-13 to Jackson State in the SWAC championship game.
