Regarding the Wildlife and Fisheries proposal to stop coyote rehab, the reason this issue has come about is the result of obscene and wasteful human behaviors that have and are destroying the environment.

We depend on nature. Nature doesn't depend on humans. Nature would be more stable if humans could become aware of our place in a healthy environment. Humans see success in pouring asphalt and concrete as far as we can. We are running animals and insects out of their natural environment. We have created and worsened flooding.

Louisiana continues to be a state saturated with carcinogens in our water, air and soil. We have become a violent culture not seen in other animals. I have never thought that humans are the most intelligent or spiritual beings. Look at what we are doing to destroy the Earth!

The rehabilitation of coyotes and other creatures is essential to maintain a healthy and stable ecosystem. Hopefully, teachers will use the coyote rehab controversy to create a teaching opportunity about respect for the environment. If kids don't know what is in the environment, how will they know if it's missing? Kids won't understand the important role of all living things — animals and plants — in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Why should they be concerned if they no longer exist? We are the problem, not the coyotes. Maybe a rehab program needs to be developed for humans.
