What makes Dearman’s Diner unique? We are community-driven. We take care of customers, and in turn, they have taken care of us. A lot of restaurants can’t make it to 10 years, but we’re 66 and still going strong. We preserve and bring with us elements from the 1950s diner and pharmacy it once was with tweaks to keep us relevant and moving forward.
Dearman’s Diner has been open since the 1950s. Why do you think it remains successful? It remains successful because of the community it serves. Dearman’s is a part of families’ stories throughout generations. We know this is a comfort place that sells great food. When you combine that with getting to know customers and our friendly, at-home atmosphere, that’s where we really thrive.
What are some of your most popular menu items? Cheeseburgers, French fries and shakes.
What are your favorite foods to eat at Dearman’s? My favorite is the cheeseburger – no pickles, no lettuce – with a chocolate malt or nectar soda. Keep the greens and give me the desserts.
How would you describe the Dearman’s atmosphere, and what do you do to make it welcoming? We give off a laidback vibe, but if you’ve ever been here during a busy lunch shift, you know everyone also works hard and hustles. The people we hire are warm, kind and genuinely care about our customers. It’s humbling and gratifying to be a part of a team with them.
What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned in your career? Who you surround yourself with matters. Lead with your heart with a people-first mentality. Striving to do right by people might not get you there the fastest, but it will take you farther and create more rewarding relationships and opportunities.
