A crash that snarled traffic on Siegen Lane at lunchtime on Friday was caused when a driver turned in front of another vehicle, causing it to spin and knock over a fire hydrant, an East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokesperson said.
A third vehicle was involved, but no injuries were reported, Deputy Savannah Jones said.
The crash happened at the traffic light at Siegen and North Rieger Road at 11 a.m., blocking traffic north on Rieger and causing some drivers to divert through store parking lots to make their way to Siegen, where the going was even slower, with one outside lane closed.
One of the drivers in the crash was cited for failure to yield, Jones said.
With the help of the Baton Rouge Water Company, the broken fire hydrant pouring water on the road was restored, and at 12:41, all lanes of Siegen Lane and Rieger Road were reopened.
