A 35-year-old Lake Charles man was arrested for attempting to kidnap a 15-year-old girl on Thursday morning near the Prien Lake Mall, according to police.
Dustin Frederick was arrested Thursday by members of the Lake Charles Police Department SWAT team during a traffic stop at Ernest and West College streets, according to a news release from the department. He was booked on one count of attempted kidnapping.
Police were dispatched to the area of Glenn and Hazel streets around 6:40 a.m. Thursday regarding the attempted kidnapping of a 15-year-old female.
When the officers arrived, the girl said a white man, later identified as Frederick, driving a black SUV style vehicle stopped and asked if she needed a ride. When she told the man no, he drove away but then passed back by her many times, she said.
On the last pass, the man stopped, got out of the car, grabbed the girl, put his arm around her and said he wanted to drive her. The girl hit the man in the face, he let her go and then left the area in his vehicle.
The police were able to identify Frederick with the assistance of video evidence near the scene.
His bond has been set at $1 million.
