Former Southern football player Kriston Davis has joined coach Terrence Graves’ staff, Davis announced on social media.

“Glad to be back Jag nation!” he posted.

Davis will serve as the assistant defensive backs coach alongside Southern defensive coordinator Henry Miller, who is also the cornerbacks coach, and first-year safeties coach Lemuel Stinson. 

Southern plays its first game against North Carolina Central at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta.

Davis played at Southern from 2019-23. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound cornerback appeared in 31 career games and had 76 tackles (56 solo), three interceptions, 22 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

In his final season, where Southern finished with a 6-5 overall record and a 5-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, Davis accumulated 31 tackles, one interception and a team-high 14 pass breakups.

Southern’s secondary group in 2025 is viewed as a definitive position of strength. The Jaguars return graduate student Horacio Johnson and Brister, who made preseason first and second team All-SWAC defense, respectively. Johnson had 74 tackles and two interceptions and Brister had 62 tackles and two interceptions.

In 2024, Southern’s pass defense allowed 152.3 passing yards per game, which was No. 1 in the SWAC and fifth in the FCS.
