A Satsuma man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for video voyeurism after he was discovered to have recorded more than 300 videos using a hidden camera placed in a bathroom in his home.
On July 10, a jury found Christopher Johnson, 41, guilty on six counts of video voyeurism after deliberating for less than two hours.
Judge Erika Sledge on Wednesday sentenced Johnson to 15 years at the Department of Corrections and to be registered as a sex offender upon his release, said Assistant District Attorney Brett Sommer, who prosecuted the case for the state.
Johnson was arrested in August 2022 after Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office investigators were contacted by a victim in 2021 who discovered a memory card with more than 300 videos from a hidden camera inside one of Johnson's home bathrooms, according to court documents.
Detectives reviewed the footage and identified two victims from the videos, 21st Judicial District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said in a news release.
Johnson's cellphone was seized during arrest, and detectives found an app on the phone used to hide photos and videos. He used his phone to operate the hidden camera, court documents say.
Perrilloux said they found "a trove" of digital images that led to the identification of four additional victims, including one juvenile.
