A new food truck, Smash City Burgers, is open by LSU at 159 W. State St., and the truck is open until the wee hours of the morning — until 4 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Although based in Houston, the Baton Rouge food truck opened before the Houston brick-and-mortar store.
The menu features an assortment of smash burgers, hot dogs, fries and milkshakes, and the entire menu is 100% Halal, meaning the preparation adheres strictly to the Islamic dietary laws that include no pork and no alcohol.
Smash City Burgers is the only all-Halal hamburger spot in Baton Rouge.

Smash City Burgers opened earlier this summer, but they are celebrating a grand opening Aug. 30-31. The ribbon-cutting is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, when people can try free Smash City food and 50% off the rest of the day until 5 a.m. The grand opening will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. with all food half off.
Kamryn Jacobs, the marketing manager for Smash City, says the summer has gone really well, and Baton Rouge has received the new food truck with open arms.
"We know that LSU students are coming back into school this week," said Jacobs, "and we really wanted to target that population because college is expensive, and students are always looking for something more affordable. We offer deals and discounts throughout the year."
